Winter Is Coming!

Winter is Coming!  Yes, as the days get shorter and the weather gets colder the kindergarten cubbies become the land of misplaced mittens, boots, hats and more.  Parents, please be sure to label all of your child's outer gear.  Students are expected to wear jackets, hats and mittens/gloves when the weather is cold. As the snow flies, students will be expected to have snow pants and warm boots as well. Students who do not have boots or snow pants will not be allowed on the field when there is snow. Label, label, label... you don't realize how many black pairs of snow pants look just alike to a 5 year old!
If for any reason, you are having difficulty supplying any of the outer gear, please reach out to me and we can work together to ensure all children have the appropriate gear.
Parents, please also remember to replenish your child's extra clothing as they use it. I would appreciate adding socks to the extra clothes, as well.
When the snow comes, students will need to wear their snow pants and boots to school in the morning so that they can participate in morning fitness recess. I would appreciate that you send in a labeled reusable grocery bag for students (like the bags you find at Hannaford or Shaws) to carry their snow pants and shoes. The little back packs are not big enough for all of the gear. The bags are also sturdy and water resistant. Students will need to wear sneakers or shoes in school during the day. Boots are just to hot and cumbersome to wear all day.
In closing, I have purchased a few extra pairs of mittens for use if someone forgets theirs or their mittens are too wet from a previous recess, but if you have extra and would like to donate to the classroom it would really help out.  Thank you and have a wonderful Thanksgiving!

Good fine motor skills start with strong core muscles. Planks!

Mrs. Lyons' Kindergarten Class is working on developing better fine motor skills. The first step is to strengthen our core muscles. Every day after announcements we do Planks. We are also starting to incorporate chair push ups. The kiddos really love them and always remind Mrs. Lyons if she forgets. Yes, Mrs. Lyons is doing the planks too! We also have a fine motor center 3 times a week. Keep up the good work kiddos!

Reading with our 5th grade book buddies.

Every Friday, we meet with Mrs. Mullin's 5th graders. They are our Book Buddies. We read to them and then they read a story to us. This is a highlight of the week!  We love seeing our Book Buddies at lunch and at recess too. They are our good friends and can help us if we need it!

Our Trip To The Fire Station

The Kindergarten classes of Great Falls enjoyed our first field trip to the Central Fire Station. Thank you Firefighter Dale!

We got to check out Firefighter Ashley's equipment and learned that although it may appear scary, it is needed to keep our firefighters safe while they do their job.
